Kamala Harris warns Israel of consequences for ground offensive in Gaza

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris said Sunday that she does not rule out taking action against Israel if it proceeds with a major ground offensive in the southern Gaza Strip.

Harris' comments came during an interview with CNN's "State of the Union" program. She said that the United States is "deeply concerned" about the escalating violence in the region and that she has been in contact with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Harris said that the United States is committed to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and that she believes that a ground offensive would only make it more difficult to achieve that goal.

She also said that the United States is working with its partners in the region to try to de-escalate the violence and bring about a ceasefire.

Harris' comments come as the Israeli military continues to carry out airstrikes on targets in Gaza. The Palestinian death toll from the airstrikes has risen to over 200, including dozens of children.

The Israeli government has said that the airstrikes are necessary to stop Hamas, the militant group that controls Gaza, from firing rockets into Israel.
