Nano Nuclear Energy To Partner With Rwanda Atomic Energy Board

Rwanda, US Sign Deal for Nano Technology Development

Nano Nuclear Energy to Partner with Rwanda Atomic Energy Board

On August 14th, Rwanda Atomic Energy Board (RAEB) signed an agreement with US-based nuclear technology company Nano Nuclear Energy. The deal includes plans to develop and deploy small modular reactors (SMRs) in Rwanda.

SMRs are small-scale nuclear reactors that generate less than 10 megawatts of electricity. They are designed to be modular and can be easily transported and assembled on-site.

The agreement between Nano Nuclear Energy and RAEB will see the two organizations work together to develop a framework for the deployment of SMRs in Rwanda. Nano Nuclear Energy will provide technical assistance and support to RAEB.

The deal is part of Rwanda's broader plans to develop its nuclear energy sector. In 2019, Rwanda signed an agreement with Russia to build nuclear power plants in the country.

The development of nuclear energy in Rwanda is seen as a way to meet the country's growing electricity demand and reduce its reliance on fossil fuels.
